Accessing Good Food

Families need affordable and healthy food for good physical and mental health. But access to healthy food isn’t always easy. It can depend on things like cost, the location of stores, and whether you have somewhere to cook and store food at home.

Difficulty accessing safe and healthy food regularly is known as ‘food insecurity.’ Food Bank’s 2024 report suggests that 32% of Australian adults are food insecure.  It’s also estimated that 1.3 million children live in households that don’t have enough to eat.

The infographic below looks at what can influence our ability to access food, adapted from Vic Health, Healthy and Sustainable Food Systems.
