Eating well can help older adults stay healthy, active, and independent. A balanced diet gives the body the nutrients it needs to support energy, strength, and well-being.

  • Vegetables and legumes

  • Fruit

  • Wholegrain breads and cereals

  • Lean meats, fish, eggs, tofu, and legumes

  • Milk, yoghurt, cheese or alternatives (mostly reduced fat)

  • Try to limit foods that are high in added sugar, salt, saturated fat, or alcohol.

Tips for healthy eating as you age:

  • Choose foods that are soft or easy to chew if needed

  • Plan meals and snacks to suit your budget

  • Try to eat with others when you can

  • Drink plenty of water

  • Eat more fibre to help with digestion
